A dog limping on a back leg can happen for a lot of reasons. One of the reasons is that, when a dog gets old, it is natural that his joints will wear down (erode), but before we come to this conclusion, take few minutes to learn about other different reasons by watching the next video.

Note: It is recommended that your vet will do the following examination, but make sure your vet conducts the examination before he sends your dog for an x-ray and charges you tons of money. Many vets rip people off.

The first step in teaching a deaf dog new tricks is to get his attention. Once you finished the first step (making your dog pay attention), you can move on to the second step.

  • Before starting teaching your dog new tricks, eliminate as many distractions as you can (as described here), so there are fewer chances that he/she will lose focus.
  • Before teaching your dog new tricks, you must teach him\her a “good” sign. A “good” sign means showing him/her that he/she preformed the way you wanted him/her to. So how do you teach a “good” sign?
    • An easy sign is a quick thumbs-up or a flash of your entire hand with your fingers spread wide apart (here). Or check out this video for another “good” sign:
    • While making a hand sign, also say “yes” or “good.” Even though your dog can’t hear, he will start to recognize your facial expressions. Try to emphasize your facial expressions so they will be noticeable by your dog.

You should train your dog in this way a few times a day. Each day, try to test your dog by making a hand sign or a facial expression. If you see that he is expecting a treat, you can be sure your training is working. You can also check the improvement of your dog’s understanding of good behavior.
